About the Author

Isley Robson is a word lover who, when not reading, spends her time writing about colorful characters and the people who love them. After earning a degree from the University of Technology Sydney, she moved to the Boston area to continue her studies and eventually took a job in corporate communications. Through it all, she continued writing and has now won a variety of romantic-fiction awards, including the Orange Rose 2015, the Fire and Ice 2015, the Catherine 2014, the Laurie 2014, and Show Me the Spark 2013. Her debut novel, The First Word, is book one in The Visionaries series.

Truly special...

Oh Wow I was so lucky to get a copy of this incredible new authors' debut in return for an honest review and I so enjoyed it. I'm So Glad it's part of the Kindle First program, as I highly recommend it... Why? Because the writing is flawless, the characters are well described and feel real, and the story kept me swiping madly.

Everyone has baggage or challenges, who knows how we all respond to the different things that the world throws at us, this book makes everything feel like a different type of reality as with the right people in your life... it is also the right type of normal. 'The First Word' is a romance at it's core... however to limit it to that genre seems superficial because it involved a special boy, with a special set of circumstances that truly gave it heart - this made it feel so very beautiful. I adored Andie and Rhys and Rhys's gorgeous, autistic son Will as they are very real characters, living and experiencing life in all of its beauty and who's story made me seriously cry at times.

I'm not going to ruin this review with spoilers, however I will say I read this a little while ago and still smile at the thought of the incredible Andie, the insurmountable Rhys and the delightful Will. Isley Robson has proven she is a very talented and sensitive writer that I have now added to my auto-buy list. This is truly special, give it a go, you will not be disappointed.

What a beautifully written, compelling novel!! Isley Robson deals with autism with great sensitivity as well as providing us with an amazing love story. Hard to put this book down. This is a must read!!

Sweet and vivid

Isley Robson has woven a rich and colorful real-life story. Her development of her characters is impressive and full, I felt like I knew them intimately and loved how descriptive she was in her writing of their thoughts. This sweet story captivated me and I had a hard time putting it down to do such ordinary things as laundry and dishes. Her vocabulary was a bit daunting- I had to look up the definition of several words- but impressive nonetheless.
I like how this book took normal daily activities and wove them into the story. For all the fairytale-ness of the story, it was very believable and, at times, I felt like I was Andie and Rhys's best friend hearing their tales.
This is an adult romance novel- sometimes young adult and adult can cross into each other, but this is definitely not one of them! Her romantic interludes are explicitly descriptive and yet "not too much" or "dirty".
I enjoyed this well-written novel and will look forward to more of her work!

Great for self study or private tutoring

I bought this book recently to specifically teach pronunciation to ESL students, and I have to say it's great. I don't have to prepare any extra exercises, because the book already has plenty, and the listening activities are simple, yet straight to the point. The explanations are easy to understand, even for beginner students of ESL, and the comparison approach the author uses is great for foreign students, when it comes to association of sounds in their language to English language sounds. For anyone interested in learning pronunciation, I definitely recommend this book.

Please note that the pronunciation taught is British, but as long as the teacher is aware of the differences and teaches the student the American English alternative, this should not be an issue.

Great Book!!

I got this book for my mom, were planning a family trip next Feb and she loves this book, she reads it everyday and has really come across some great content for our trip, I asked her and she says she highly recommends this book.
Work picking up. Great photos and knowledge for planning your trip. She said she read a part where they talk about what times to avoid bus tours so the author or authors are very knowledgeable about the area.

I have no complaint about the seller. Just the book. Too many hotel info, not enough about the area, hikes, flora and fauna. I abandonned the book at the hotel when we left South Island, didn't want to take it home.

This book has been such an encouragement! If you love your role as being a wife and stay at home mom than you should read this book. Or if you have doubts if you are doing the right thing by staying home, this book is for you. It is so beautifully put together. YOu will be so blessed by this book. I loved it so much I bought one to give to my best friend. I want to keep mine for my daughters to read.

Queenly Thoughts

Queen of the home was a quick, easy, and encouraging read. I enjoyed the chapter topics and felt they dealt with things every mom needs to be reminded about. The compilation of authors, poets and writers was a great combination. I also enjoyed the illustrations between each chapter section. Beautiful art! This book would make a great gift for baby showers, wedding showers or even just for a friend in general.
What I enjoyed most about this book was the scripture. I enjoy hearing mans opinions about Godly Womanhood - but how much more precious to read them from the Word of God! Overall, I wasn't blown away by the quips, poems, and short essays - but they were great reminders. There was a clear and definite conservative point of view, which I fear excludes women who are at this time "forced" to be outside of their homes, etc. Otherwise, good book. :)

This book apparently was cut shorter and had NO PAGE NUMBERS. Ended up having to return the book early and rent another copy from someone else. TOTAL WASTE OF MY MONEY. First experience renting a textbook and not a happy person. If I could give it no stars I would.

Excellent, but NOT for those who are uneducated about singin

This may sound pompous, that is, saying what I say in the title of my review. This book is excellent, and it is the first one I read by Richard Miller. However, I have sang for decades, had a career, and teach voice. I have a background in understanding what he is talking about. I read the reviews that rated this book a one star, and quite frankly, I can see why such a person would do that. It was evident by the reviews that these people, though they want to sing and love doing it, are still looking for that "one perfect exercise" that will create their "soon to be famous voice." This book will not do that for you. Firstly, there is no such thing as a "singing made simple" book, even though there are plenty of them out there that claim such a thing is possible. It is true one doesn't need to understand all there is to know about singing to sing well, but one does have a greater appreciation for what they are doing if they learn more than the basic scales.

This book does try to help people understand the physical functionings of the voice, which techniques out there actually work against good vocal production and which things support it. All of that can be very confusing if you are not somewhat knowledgeable of singing technique.

That is why I say, this book is NOT for those who are not educated in singing, or who are seeking a quick fix for some vocal problem they may have, or who simply think reading a book on voice will make them the winners of the NEXT AMERICAN IDOL. Personally, I think this book is more valuable to teachers than anyone, but it is excellent for serious students who wish to learn more about what is happening in their bodies as they sing.

None of Richard Miller's books are an easy read, and in fact, they are very academic in nature and in word usage, and they presuppose the reader has a very active background in vocal terminalogy.

I recommend all his books for those who are studying and most especially to those who teach. I don't recommend any of them to those who are wanting the "quick fix" to stardom. One thing all readers of his works need is a very detailed understanding of their own bodies, and what they do while they sing. Only then will the information he gives really help you, for only then will you see if you are using your muscles correctly or if you are not.

Miller's books on singing, as excellent as I think they are, are not for everyone. Buy this book only if you are sure you know it contains what you are able to understand. I recommend borrowing his books from public libraries before you buy them, then you will be able, without having spent the price, to see if they help you. Once you see how good they are, then buying them is an excellent idea.

One of the most insightful books I have read. Mr. Millers book is so well thought out. The material is so well researched that it sometimes feels like one is reading a research paper. Do not let this discourage you from buying it, however, because it never gets boring. It is a very useful tool for any person who wants to improve his voice. I noticed results withing a few days of reading the book and I have to admit I haven't even tried all the exercises. This book is also not always easy to understand but Mr. Miller does his best to help by adding an appendix and even a glossary of vocal terms! Definitely worth your money if your seeking to better your voice, even if it is not for a professional career.

If you want to learn how to sing - and add a few new words to your vocabulary, get this book. To those reviewers who find fault with Mr. Millers fancy words: Grow up and get yourself a freakin' thesaurus and/or a dictionary. This book is full of info on singing, from breathing to forming vowels to taking care of the voice. Lots of exercises. I've read other books on singing, but this book is better than any of them. If this book doesn't make you a better singer, then it might be time to think about taking up mime instead. So, do yourself a favor - buy this book.

This book was beyond what I expected. I highly recommend it. I took it with me on my vacation. While on the airplane, I thought I would read a little then fall asleep. It was so interesting and enlightening, I could not put it down. Larry Thompson shared many personal and true stories about himself and each story had a spiritual message and teaching. He teaches about the Glory of God, and how to always be in that Glory. He shares in a simple way to understand how important that is and how to obtain it. I have read it through many times and always get more from it. I received healing in my body and also have more peace since reading this book. It is truely a tool that every Christian needs.

good overview

I'm an aerospace grad student and I want to work for a defense contractor, so I figured I'd start trying to educate myself on fighter design.

This book has a lot of basics that are easy to understand for everyone, not just us "rocket scientists". I find the authors style a little bland, but that might be due to my familiarity with the subject matter. Color pictures would help spice things up.

Overall I think its a good book for anyone interested in the science behind fighter planes.

This is an interesting book on modern combat aircraft design. It is well written and simple to follow and understand making it accessible to a wide audience with an interest in combat aircraft.

The book is very informative, with great pictures, good illustrations and descriptions. However, the book can do with updates to take into account some of the developments that have taken place in the 20 years since its publication.

For the first time using a man as her protagonist, Bradford gives us a cliched love story nearly indistinguishable from her previous ( A Woman of Substance ) hefty novels. Tycoon Maximilian West, workaholic founder of a multinational financial empire, is endowed with "personal magnetism," "fatal charm," "charisma" and "presence" but is emotionally obtuse with the women who adore him. Born Maxim Wertheim in Berlin, he is brought to London in 1939 by his loving nursemaid; his parents die in concentration camps. Forging a brilliant business career, he marries a glamorous Frenchwoman, eventually losing her to the demands of his career; two more wives and assorted mistresses fail to bring him happiness. In one of the clunkier epiphanies in commercial novels, he finally understands the reason for his increasing anomie, and, not to our surprise, wins the woman of his heart. Bradford is more adept at describing opulent furniture, clothing and food, and in providing capsule tours of posh neighborhoods in London, New York, Berlin, Paris, Venice and Morocco than she is in delineating the personalities of her characters, whose insights about themselves and others are so superficial as to verge on the ludicrous. But her legions of readers undoubtedly will be satisfied by the romantic fortunes of the cultured, wealthy and powerful people whose lives she evokes with lavish sentiment. BOMC selection.

Barbara Cartland is a wonderful author. I absolutely loved A Woman of Substance

Barbara Cartland is a wonderful author. I absolutely loved A Woman of Substance. After that one, all others sort of pale. But that is to be expected. The success she enjoyed from that phenomenal novel would be impossible to replicate. That would be like somebody twice winning a Pulitzer prize.
Having said that, if my expectation had not been so very high, I would have been over the moon with this novel. She is still better than just about anybody writing sagas.

Still a good read

This remains a book of enduring quality! The author gave us attractive characters for whom we weep, for whom we cheer on and for whom we are just glad that we got to know. I first read the book decades ago and really enjoyed my resent reread!
